Lakshmi Narasimhan appointed CEO of Infomedia

Narasimhan will be responsible for taking Infomedia beyond print into online, TV and events

Lakshmi Narasimhan, head, business development, Network18, has been named chief executive officer of Infomedia India, which was acquired recently by Network18. Prior to this, Narasimhan was responsible for setting up new ventures, including Sports18 and Synergy18.

At Infomedia, according to an official release, Narasimhan will expand the portfolio of Infomedia titles (the company has 21 special interest titles at present, including Overdrive, Chip, T3 and Yellow Pages), grow revenues, create multimedia platforms and build and nurture a first rate team.

Infomedia has already started looking beyond print and has tied up with Alibaba.com, a business to business (B2B) e-commerce company, to create an online community of Indian small and medium enterprises (SMEs) and provide them with a single cost effective channel to promote their products and source from quality suppliers in India and around the world.

Narasimhan has more than 14 years of experience in media buying, revenue management and business development. He has also headed Central Trading Group, the media buying arm of GroupM in India.

He is hopeful that he’ll be able to take Infomedia into a new phase of growth. “I am excited at the opportunity of working with such a passionate and committed team and look forward to making Infomedia one of India’s leading publishing businesses,” he was quoted as saying in the release.

Meanwhile, Prakash Iyer, who was the CEO and managing director of Infomedia, will now be MD. Iyer too feels that Narasimhan’s appointment will help Infomedia transcend the boundaries of print. “I am delighted to have Lakshmi on board to spearhead the growth of our magazines division and expand our presence across print, online, events and television,” he says.
