Cyber Media Group exits from online jobs business

The Cyber Media Group has moved out of the online jobs business and sold its database of registered users to TimesJobs.com

The Cyber Media Group, which owns the technology or IT focused jobs portal called CyberMediaDice.com, has been shut down and its database of registered users has been transferred to TimesJobs.com, a jobs portal owned by Times Business Solutions.

Speaking to afaqs!, Pradeep Gupta, chairman, Cyber Media Group, says, “Basically, CyberMediaDice.com was a joint venture between Cyber Media and Dice.com, a US based jobs portal. A few months ago, Dice.com decided to exit India, so we bought the stake owned by it. But now we have decided to exit from the online jobs market as it has never been our core business.”

Gupta explains, “We decided to keep serving our registered users, so we have shifted our database to TimesJobs.com.” He says the brand, Cyber Media Careers, will not exist any more. He did not divulge any specific reason for choosing TimesJobs.com or the financial details of the deal, which involved the transfer of a database of around half a million registered users.

In October 2004, Cyber Media created a joint venture with Dice Inc., which runs a US based, technology focused jobs site called Dice.com, to launch Cyber Media Dice Careers. In February 2008, Dice Inc. decided to exit from the Indian market. Cyber Media bought Dice's stake in CyberMediaDice.com and became Cyber Media Careers.

Other players in the online job business in India include Naukri.com of the Infoedge Group, TimesJobs.com, ClickJobs.com of the Bharatmatrimony Group and Shine.com, a recently launched job portal by Firefly e-ventures of HT Media Ltd.
