Contests2win eyes US, Europe with new video site

The site will allow people to play dumb charades online, and has been targeted at users in the US and Western Europe

Contests2win, the online contests site, has launched a new site for playing dumb charades online. At youCharades.com, people can both post videos enacting the name of a movie, book or celebrity, or participate by guessing the right answer.

Speaking to afaqs!, Raj Menon, chief operating officer of Contests2win says, “We believe that consumers will create content if you give them the right platform. Also, viewers (of online video) like to get entertained in an interactive manner. The site also has a bit of nostalgia attached to it, as dumb charades is a game played in school or college.”

Users can upload their videos shot with a webcam or digital camera. The site also recognises the best actors and the best guessers. Each video uploaded on the site will be moderated, says Menon.

Interestingly, youCharades.com is targeted at an international audience, especially in the US and Western Europe, and that's where it has been generating traction. “This is because there is a popular home video culture in these regions. Also, English is the primary language of the Internet and it would be difficult to have the game in Hindi,” adds Menon. However, Contests2win is planning to add languages such as French and Portugese.

The site will be monetised through display advertising, adds Menon. A model similar to Contests2win.com is being planned, where users get a share of the revenue earned on their videos through Google ads. There are no plans to have video ads on the site as of now.

youCharades.com is being promoted on the company's online game advertising network, Inviziads, where the videos appear in pre-roll and post-roll advertising. A Facebook application has also been developed for promoting the site.
