GEC Watch: Colors number 3 in second week

The channel is steadily gathering its share in the overall GEC pie

It’s a feat that very few television channels have managed. With an unbeatable programming lineup, marketing blitzkrieg and a brilliant distribution strategy, Viacom-18's general entertainment channel (GEC), Colors has jumped two spots and grabbed the number three position in the exciting GEC space. According to TAM Media Research data, in Week 31 for C&S, 4+, HSM, the week after its launch, Colors has garnered a share of 10 per cent in the overall GEC pie. STAR Plus stands at number 1 with 27 per cent and Zee TV is second, with 18 percent.

Colors has raced ahead of Sony Entertainment Television, which, despite its unsteady position in the GEC space, was at number three in Week 30. SET India has gathered a share of 8 per cent and is now at number four, along with STAR One. The other two new GECs, NDTV Imagine and 9X, which have been striving to beat each other, have settled at number five position with a channel share of 7 per cent each.

The channel attracted the required sampling in the launch week, thanks to its much-hyped reality show, 'Fear Factor- Khatron Ke Khiladi'. Along with that were other shows, such as a mythological programme 'Jai Shri Krishna', which made the programming stronger. 'Fear Factor', the channel was certain, would attract eyeballs and even retain them, because of Akshay Kumar and the thirteen celebrity participants.

After Fear Factor ends on August 14, Colors has another blockbuster reality show, the second season of 'Bigg Boss', which will air from August 17 onwards, everyday at 10 pm. Colors has roped in Shilpa Shetty as the anchor of the show. Shetty made news across the globe when she won Big Brother UK last year.
