PV Shyam is new distribution head at BBC Worldwide Channels

BBC Worldwide has appointed PV Shyam as the distribution head for its South Asian business. In his new role, Shyam will be responsible for the distribution of BBC Worldwide Channels and BBC World News for South Asia.

Shyam will directly report to Nachiket Pantvaidya, general manager, BBC Worldwide Channels. In his new role, Shyam will be required to plan and strategise distribution deals, along with being responsible for the operational functions of BBC Worldwide Channels and BBC World News for South Asia.

In an official communiqué, Shyam says, “BBC is a global brand and will warrant huge competence. The distribution business is a competitive one and I am motivated by this assignment. I intend to make a difference to this organisation and take it to new levels.”

The immediate task at hand for Shyam is to devise distribution strategies, with an aim to increase the reach and revenue of the BBC channels. Additionally, he has the task of launching new channels in India and has to make inroads into new markets, such as Pakistan and Sri Lanka. He will also be spearheading BBC Worldwide's presence on platforms such as Internet Protocol Television (IPTV) and mobile.

Having worked with a number of broadcast organisations as a sales and marketing professional, Shyam has about 15 years of experience in diverse genres and formats.

Prior to joining BBC Worldwide, he was vice-president, business development at Digital Entertainment Network - a subsidiary of Network18. He has also had long stints with National Geographic Channel and Channel V.

Shyam is hopeful of contributing to his new organisation by drawing on his expertise of conceptualising, augmenting and streamlining channel networks and implementing product placements.
