Himachal Prakashan, publisher of the Hindi daily, Divya Himachal, is all set to launch Himachal Pradesh's first English weekly. The new publication - Himachal This Week - will hit the stands on December 6.
Divya Himachal Prakashan entered the print media sector 11 years ago with its flagship Hindi daily. Speaking to afaqs!, Rajiv Jaitley, general manager, Divya Himachal Prakashan, says, "With increasing literacy rates and a sizable youth population, it makes sense to come out with a product that caters to their tastes and content preferences in the English language. Every year, five lakh students pass out of Class 12. The majority of them have an eye on government jobs, and like others, people in Himachal too aspire to be part of the English speaking and reading population."
Jaitley adds, "The weekly is priced at Rs 5 and will be available to readers every Saturday. Himachal This Week will have an initial print run of 30,000 copies. In addition to our existing mainline advertisers, we are hopeful that we will have more categories and the services sectors advertising with us, simply because now we are giving interested advertisers a choice to reach out to a new segment - a segment that has an affinity for the English language."
Divya Himachal Prakashan plans to spread the word about Himachal This Week by advertising in English publications such as The Tribune. Jaitley is confident that being a weekly, the publication will enjoy a longer shelf life and provide the publishers the luxury to report matters in detail and with accuracy.
Himachal This Week promises to be an informative and entertaining guide for the people of Himachal Pradesh.
