PointRoll enters India through Komli Media

PointRoll owns 60 per cent market share in the rich media advertising space in the US. Komli Media will represent it in India

PointRoll, a US-based online advertising company, which has expertise in rich media or interactive advertising, has entered the Indian market. It has entered into a two-year strategic partnership with Komli Media, which runs an online ad network and Vizisense.com, an online audience measurement tool.

PointRoll is not a digital advertising agency. In fact, it owns a technology which allows advertisers to run rich media advertising campaigns. In the US, its clients include ad agencies, advertisers and publishers. It offers more than 70 billion rich media impressions each year and works with around two-thirds of the Fortune 500 companies.

For the uninitiated, the Interactive Advertising Bureau (IAB) defines rich media advertisements as online campaigns with which users can interact, as opposed to mere animation, and excluding click-through functionality in a web page format.

Speaking to afaqs!, Akshay Garg, business head, Komli Media, says, “PointRoll owns 60 per cent market share in the rich media advertising space in the US. In India, Komli Media will be the exclusive representative of PointRoll. We will not only offer rich media advertising solutions such as expandable ads, page takeover ads and page tear ads owned by PointRoll to our ad network clients, but also to various digital agencies, advertisers and online publishers in India.”

The company is talking to various advertisers and ad agencies in India to offer rich media ad solutions to their clients. Some of the major digital agencies in India have already started using the PointRoll services, although Garg refuses to reveal their names.

PointRoll is owned by the Gannet Group, which publishes 85 daily newspapers in the US, including USA Today, and 900 non-daily publications. In the UK, the group publishes an English daily called Newsquest and owns 300 weekly newspapers, magazines and trade publications. It holds more than 50 per cent stake in CareerBuilder.com, an online job portal. The group also operates various TV stations in the US.

In India, PointRoll will face competition from the US-based EyeBlaster, which also provides rich media ad solutions and has already set up its office here.
