Economic Times on television in three months

The much awaited business channel launch has been named ET NOW

Times Global Broadcasting is inching closer to the launch of its business news channel. The channel has been christened ET NOW, akin to its news channel TIMES NOW, launched in 2006. The channel hopes to bring alive the Economic Times newspaper onto viewers’ television sets. The channel was to launch late last year but the launch has been delayed.

The launch of this business news channel had been kept under wraps, with very little being revealed. When asked about the tentative launch date, Chintamani Rao, CEO, Times Global Broadcasting refrained from giving any timeline. “We have reached the end of putting things in place. Launching a news channel of this kind is not easy and is time consuming. It will be very soon, though I cant specify the month,” he said. Sources say that the channel will make an entry by March this year.

The channel hopes to replicate the values and attributes of the Economic Times, which is the most widely read business publication the country. The focus would be on speed and accuracy. The channel will be positioned as that is clear, authoritative and credible voice of the India Inc and emerge as the ultimate authority in business news. Rahul Joshi, ET’s executive editor will also head ET NOW.

Times Global Broadcasting is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Bennett, Coleman & Co. Right now, the English business news genre has three players - CNBC TV18, NDTV Profit and UTVi. ET NOW’s foray will make it the fourth channel to be launched after a long gap.
