Popli has about 15 years of work experience. He started his career with Ranbaxy Laboratories as market executive in 1994 and worked there for six years. He left Ranbaxy as country manager, Myanmar.

In 2000, Popli moved into the media business when he joined STAR India. At STAR, he has worked across various divisions ranging from programming and distribution to handling international operations.

According to Popli, one of his achievements at STAR India was the launch of its mobile entertainment division. Another major achievement was the launch of the Plus mobile application, which enables mobile users to view daily mobisodes of popular content from channels such as STAR Plus, STAR Gold and STAR One.
