Viren Popli moves out of STAR India

Popli has been with STAR India for nine years. He will join a media company

Viren Popli, senior vice-president and head, mobile entertainment division, STAR India, has put in his papers and is currently serving his notice period at the organisation.

Confirming his move to afaqs!, Popli says, “I will stay in the media industry. I will join a traditional media company where I will look after various divisions including the mobile function.” However, he is not ready to divulge any further details about his movement.

Sources close to the development inform afaqs! that Anand Raman, vice-president, mobile entertainment, will replace Popli at STAR India.

Viren Popli moves out of STAR India
Popli has about 15 years of work experience. He started his career with Ranbaxy Laboratories as market executive in 1994 and worked there for six years. He left Ranbaxy as country manager, Myanmar.

In 2000, Popli moved into the media business when he joined STAR India. At STAR, he has worked across various divisions ranging from programming and distribution to handling international operations.

According to Popli, one of his achievements at STAR India was the launch of its mobile entertainment division. Another major achievement was the launch of the Plus mobile application, which enables mobile users to view daily mobisodes of popular content from channels such as STAR Plus, STAR Gold and STAR One.
