Mudra South wins Agency of the Year at Pepper Awards 2009

In the third edition of the awards, Mathrubhumi won the Advertiser of the Year award

Ad Club of Cochin’s Pepper Awards 2009 concluded on March 28 at the Le Meridian Hotel and Convention Centre, Kochi. The contest was open to advertising agencies from the South Indian states of Andhra Pradesh, Kerala, Tamil Nadu and Karnataka.

The awards were given in categories such as Agency of the Year, Advertiser of the Year, Art Director of the Year, Copywriter of the Year, Special Jury Award, Campaign of the Year, Press Campaign, TV Commercial, Corporate AV, Outdoor, Radio, Interactive Web Based, POP, Direct Mailer, Photography and Packaging.

Some of the new categories included were Logo Design, Unpublished Works, PR and Promos. An exclusive section for participants from Kerala covered segments such as jewellery, real estate, textile, hospitality and ayurveda. This section, however, was not considered in the tally for the Agency of the Year award.

The points system for the awards continue to be the same, with 15 points for each gold, 10 points for each silver and five points for each bronze.

Mudra South took away the Agency of the Year award, and Mathrubhumi was named Advertiser of the Year. Mudra also won the Campaign of the Year for SimplyMarry.com.

Ad-India won the Special Jury Award for Grand Kerala Shopping Festival.

In the Press category (Colour, Campaign), Mudra took home a gold (SimplyMarry.com), a silver (Cutis olive oil) and a bronze (Air India). Creativeland Asia took the second bronze in the category for Visaimages.

In the Press (Black and White campaign) category, only two bronze awards were given. Creativeland Asia (Eye Bank Association of Kerala) and Orchard Advertising (Subhiksha Retail Store) took these awards.

Among the Unpublished Press (Campaign) work, Maa Communication received two bronze metals for Coconut Development Board.

In the Press (Colour, Single) category, Creativeland Asia won a gold and a bronze for Visaimages. Stark Communications, Be Positive 24 and JWT Mindset were among the finalists. In the Unpublished Press Single category, Mudra South took the only bronze for Blossom.

Moving to the TV category, among the singles, Nirvana Films took a silver and a gold for Vodafone, while Maitri Advertising took two silver metals for Mathrubhumi. Nirvana Films also won two bronzes, one for Incredible India the other for Virgin Mobiles. TWC Films took the third bronze in the category for Vaibhav Jewellers.

Among the campaign entries for TV, Mudra South took one of the bronzes for Amrutanjan, while Maitri Advertising took two bronze metals for Mathrubhumi.

Be Positive won the only award, a bronze, in the Outdoor Hoarding Single category, for its client Dynasty. In the Outdoor Hoarding Campaign category, Mudra South took two bronze metals for SimplyMarry.com and YoBykes.

JWT Mindset won a silver metal, while Creativeland Asia, Mudra South and White Canvas won a bronze each in the Outdoor Ambient category.

Maitri Advertising took a silver in the Radio Single category, and a silver and a bronze in the Radio Campaign category, while Radio Mango took a gold in the Radio Campaign category and a bronze in the Radio Single category. TBWA Anthem received a bronze in the Radio Campaign category.

Stark Communication received two bronze metals while Be Positive got one in the Poster Single category. Creativeland Asia won a silver and a bronze in the Poster Campaign category, while Orchard Advertising took the other bronze.

One MG won a silver metal in the Calendar sub-group of Direct Mailers. Mudra South and JWT Mindset won bronzes in the Direct Mailer, Single category. Mudra South won a silver in the Direct Mailer, Campaign category.

Two silver metals were given out in the Design Logo category to Be Positive and Thousand Suns. Thousand Suns also picked up a bronze in the Design Corporate Identity category and Fresh Lime Communications won a silver metal in the same category.

JWT Mindset won a bronze in Design Annual Report, M&M Market (silver), Market Level Advertising (bronze) in the Design Corporate Brochure category. Fresh Lime Communication took two silvers and Mudra South and Fountain Head took a bronze respectively in the Design Product Brochure category.

Mega Media and JWT Mindset won a bronze each in the Package Design category. Fresh Lime Communication and Rajan Paul won a silver in the Photography category. JWT Mindset took a bronze.

Mudra South took a gold in Typography (Single) and a silver in Typography (Campaign). Creativeland Asia won a silver in the Copywriting (Single) and (Campaign) categories. Mudra South won a bronze on the campaign sub-category.

Creativeland Asia struck gold in the Illustration (Single as well as Campaign) categories. Mudra South won a silver in the Single sub-group, while Orchard Advertising (Single and Campaign) and White Canvas won bronzes.

Creativeland Asia took a silver (Single and Campaign) and a bronze (Single and Campaign) in the Art Direction category. The other winners were One MG (bronze, Single¬) and Mudra South (gold, Campaign sub-group).

Maitri Advertising won a silver and Mudra South won a bronze in the Integrated Campaign category. In the Public Service category, Creativeland Asia won a bronze in Single and Campaign – Press. In the Press Unpublished Work category, Mudra took a silver and Orchard Advertising took home a bronze.

The Kerala specific awards were separately announced.

Prathap Suthan, national creative director, South West Asia, Cheil Worldwide; Josy Paul, chairperson and national creative director, BBDO India; and Sajan Raj Kurup, chairperson and chief creative officer, Creativeland Asia were the members of the jury.
