Radio City, Radio Mango and Adlabs Films are finalists for NYF 2009

Radio City has three entries, while Radio Mango and Adlabs Films have one entry each

New York Festivals (NYF) has announced the finalists for its Radio Programming and Promotion Awards 2009.

From India, two radio stations -- Radio City and Radio Mango have been shortlisted as finalists under four categories. While Radio City has secured three nominations, Radio Mango has one.

Besides Radio City and Radio Mango, the Hindi movie, Halla Bol from Adlabs Films is a contender for top honours in the Best Sound category.

Radio City has made it as a finalist for the following three categories: Best personality -- NetworkSyndicated, Talk Special: Interview and Talk Program: Interview. Radio Mango is competing in the Station ID category for its signature jingle, 'Go Go Radio Mango'.

Commenting on making it to the finals in as many as three categories, Rana Barua, executive vice-president and national head - programming, says, "NYF recognises the best work in radio broadcast. Our selection amongst the top three finalists is recognition of the fact that we are innovators in the radio space and strive to put together world-class programming for our listeners."

The radio station's RJ Praveen of The Great Indian Countdown has been selected for the Best personality -- NetworkSyndicated category. The other two entries that have made it as finalists are Celeb Marathon and Meri Kahaani under Talk Special: Interview and Talk Program: Interview categories, respectively.

The show, Great Indian Countdown, hosted by RJ Praveen is a round-up of the week's biggest chartbusters. Besides playing popular numbers, the RJ entertains listeners with the latest news and gossip from Bollywood.

Celeb Marathon was a non-stop, 100-hour interaction with the top names of Kannada cinema. The innovation was broadcast on Radio City Bengaluru, where stalwarts from the Kannada film industry interacted and hosted various shows on the radio station, from December 8, 2008, 6 am to December 12, 2008, 2 pm.

The show featured celebrities such as Puente Rajkumar, Shivarajkumar -Gurukiran, Mano Murthy, Indrajit Lankesh and Nagathihalli.

The third entry from Radio City, Meri Kahaani is a show featuring legendary Bollywood artists such as Lata Mangeshkar, Yash Chopra, Shammi Kapoor, Jeetendra, Anu Malik, Kavita Krishnamurthy and Anuradha Paudwal. The special Sunday show encourages appointment viewing and is a treasure trove of melodious music. It is a four-year-old property on Radio City.

Kerala's Radio Mango has been shortlisted under the Station ID category at NYF 2009 for its signature jingle, Go Go Radio Mango. The radio station plays predominantly Malayalam music.

Lyrics for the jingle have been penned by Kaithapram Damodaran Namboothiri and the music director is Deepak Dev. The Radio Mango jingle encourages one to forge a new path, soaring above expectations. It's a call for a better tomorrow.

Arjun Madhusudan, creative director, Radio Mango 91.9, says, "Entering a conservative market like Kerala required a melody familiar to the Malayali, but international in its composition. The jingle fuses both and is incredibly catchy."
