Dishtv offers job search on DTH

The DTH operator has tied up with Monster.com to offer this service to subscribers

DTH operator, Dishtv has announced a tie-up with job portal, Monster.com to enable subscribers to search for jobs through their set top boxes (STBs). The service, called Monster Jobs Active, will be available on Dishtv's interactive channel by the end of July.

The service, available for free to all Dishtv subscribers, will enable job searches on parameters such as location, industry and experience. Subscribers can also get information about Monster's career services, such as Résumé Writing and Résumé Blaster. There is also a separate category for fresher jobs.

Salil Kapoor, chief operating officer, Dishtv, says, "The kind of penetration that TV has is much more than broadband or Internet. This service is for people who are more comfortable using the remote than the PC." He expects at least 10 per cent of Dishtv's 5.5 million subscribers to use this service.

Kapoor adds that a TV campaign will be underway after the launch and the service will also be promoted on Dishtv's interactive channels.

Since STBs today do not offer a return path – technology through which users can enter inputs on DTH – subscribers will not be able to directly apply for the jobs they see on Dishtv. To do so, they can either use Monster's mobile services (on SMS and WAP) or logon to the Internet.

Sanjay Modi, managing director, Monster.com for India, Middle East and South Africa says that the tie-up will help them penetrate deeper in smaller towns, where people generally look for jobs through publications.

This is the first time that a job portal has tied up with a DTH operator, though most operators have made matrimony services available through STBs.

Monster.com claims to have 18 million registered users in India.
