Last week the household durables marketers gave food and beverages marketers a run for their money with phenomenal offers.

The household durables market was buoyant with great offers. Kenstar, through its ‘pure cool' offer was giving a water purifier worth Rs 4,990 free with a 1.5 ton window air conditioner worth Rs. 23,490. This promo is valid in Delhi, UP, Punjab and Haryana. LG was not far behind. On buying LG home appliances, the homemaker had the wonderful chance of winning over 400 prizes. These prizes included a free trip to a destination of the buyer's choice, a free LG product of the buyer's choice, free membership to 'I buy LG' club, and exotic designer jewellery worth Rs 50,000. This promotion is valid in select cities only.

Through the ‘laser magic' offer, Samsung was offering up to 20 per cent discount on select products. These products comprised washing machines, microwave ovens, colour televisions, refrigerators, DVD players and air conditioners. To avail of the offer, the consumer had to buy a Samsung laser printer. This promotion is valid in select cities, at select outlets till May 31, 2001. Usha was enticing prospective buyers in Delhi with its discount offer. The Ajeet double blower cooler was available for Rs 5,990. This is a limited period offer.

Polar too was fanning the curiosity of consumers with its offer. Depending on the model of the Polar fan or pump bought, the buyer got a yellow or blue scratch card. While the buyer had the chance to win up to Rs 10,000 on the spot with the yellow card, with the blue scratch card he/she had the chance to win a TV, a stereo system, a two-in-one, a mixer grinder, a juicer extractor and much more. This limited period offer is valid in Delhi and Bangalore.

Philips was giving MP3 CDs with 75 songs free with the purchase of select models of Philips music system. This offer is valid in Mumbai, Delhi, Ghaziabad, Gurgaon and Meerut. In the second offer, the consumer got a Rs 70 to Rs 200 off on exchanging an old iron for a brand new Philips steam iron or dry iron. This promo is valid in Kolkata till April 30, 2001. Hitachi was giving Hitachi air conditioners on zero interest instalments to its customers. In the other offer, Hitachi was giving a Rs 4,000 discount on the purchase of Hitachi air conditioner. Both these are limited period offers, valid in select cities only.

Sony was giving the MHC-GX2000 model of Sony music system for Rs. 14,990. And with that the buyer got five Sony music CDs (worth more than Rs 1,500) plus a designer CD rack (capacity: 50 CDs) worth Rs 750 free. This limited stock offer is valid in Kolkata and Mumbai. Akai was desperately trying to woo customers. On exchanging an old colour television for the latest 53 cm (21 inch) Akai colour television, the buyer got the TV set for Rs 8,990 and a 70W Micro CD system plus five ACDs worth Rs 5,750 free. This limited stock offer is valid in select cities only.

In the food and beverages market, there were a handful of offers only. McDonald's had a treat for Delhi school kids, who have just become free from the exam drill. Those who scored 80 per cent (A grade) or above in the exams got a Soft Serve Sundae worth Rs 33 free. This offer is valid till April 30, 2001. Kwality had a double yum offer for kids. On buying the 1.5 lt Kwality Walls Classic ice cream, the buyer got butter packs worth Rs 27 free. This promo is valid in Delhi only.

There were just two offers from the apparels marketers. Arvind mills was drawing the attention of residents of Bangalore with up to 40 per cent rebate on the entire range of Flying Machine and Ruggers. Newport, the other brand from Arvind Mills, was giving a Polo T-shirt worth Rs 149 free with every Newport wrinkle-free trousers or Newport jeans. This offer is valid in the NCR region. On buying a pair of Ruf & Tuf five pocket gabardines, the buyer got Ruf & Tuf cotton casuals priced at Rs 399 for just Rs 199. This limited stock offer is valid in Delhi.

Tantex had a money saving offer for southerners. They had the chance to save Rs 3,000 on brands like BPL, Prestige and Indigo Nation. To claim the discount, buyers had to buy three pieces of Tantex products. This promotion is valid in Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka and Kerala, till June 30, 2001.

Its high time automotives marketers got into the promo game. Last week, there were only a few offers to lure buyers. Bajaj was offering the Kawasaki Boxer at a discounted price of Rs 32,498. This limited stock offer is open only for the residents of Bangalore. The second offer was from TVS. On buying a TVS moped, the buyer got one Prestige pressure cooker worth Rs 808 free. This offer is valid in Bangalore till April 30, 2001.

There were one offer each from the personal care and the service industry. In the ‘buy one, get one free' offer by Himani, the consumer got a tube of Himani Boro Plus free on the purchase of a tube of Boro Plus. This limited stock offer is valid in Kolkata. American Express was roping in customers with its lucrative offer - ‘American Express Travellers Cheques Scratch & Win Contest'. The prizes included one Mitsubishi Lancer, six Sony handycams, 300 bags and thousands of other prizes. These could be won on scratching the card available with the purchase of American Express Travellers Cheques worth USD 2,500 (or equivalent). This offer is valid in select outlets in select cities till June 23, 2001.
