Loop Mobile appoints Sandip Basu as chief executive officer

XCEL Telecom's erstwhile managing director and chief executive officer, Sandip Basu has joined Loop Mobile as chief executive officer

Sandip Basu has joined Loop Mobile (earlier BPL Mobile) as the chief executive officer. He replaces Sanjeev Chachondia, who is serving his notice period at the company.

Basu joins Loop Mobile from XCEL Telecom, where he was the managing director and CEO.

With management experience of over 25 years, this is Basu's second stint with the company. He worked with the BPL Mobile Group from 1997 to 2005 in various capacities. In his last role with the company, Basu was the executive director and CEO. He has also worked with companies such as Fascel, Bharti Telecom and Apollo Tyres.

A commerce graduate from Delhi and a qualified chartered and cost accountant, Basu will oversee the national launch of the company's subsidiary, Loop Telecom, and further strengthen the position of Loop Mobile in Mumbai.

Loop Telecom has received license to start GSM services in 21 telecom circles in the country and has received the spectrum for 20 circles. It has launched operations in Tamil Nadu, Orissa, Karnataka and Kerala under the brand name, Loop Mobile.

BPL Mobile, operating in Mumbai for over 13 years, was re-branded early this year as Loop Mobile, and claims to cater to over 2.5 million subscribers.
