TiE and Canon bring together the passion for entrepreneurship and photography

The two organisations have joined hands to launch a photo contest for photography enthusiasts with an entrepreneurial spirit

When TiE (The Indus Entrepreneurs) Delhi was looking for partners for its upcoming event on September 18, they approached Canon India. However, Canon India went one step ahead and suggested the launch of an interesting competition that links TiE's objective of promoting entrepreneurship with Canon's of promoting photography.

The two organisations, thus, have jointly launched TiEcon Delhi Photo Contest 2009, a photography contest, which will feature pictures that bring out the entrepreneurial passion of the participants.

Alok Bharadwaj, senior vice-president, Canon India speaks to afaqs! on the thought behind Canon talking entrepreneurship. "As they say, the drivers of every economy are entrepreneurs. Keeping that thought in mind, we understand that it is the domestic entrepreneurs who are behind the economic growth of our country. Since an economic upsurge positively helps our business, expanding the entrepreneurship base is part of our basic strategy. Small and medium enterprise owners, as well as large businesses, form an integral part of our client base -- a good reason for us to be involved in such a programme."

The contest invites entries from amateurs and professional photographers alike, who have the spirit of entrepreneurship. The submitted entries have to bring out some aspect of entrepreneurship -- for instance, the participant's workplace, the business environment in which he or she operates, depicting human emotions of an entrepreneur or memories of the days of struggle, or even a picture taken on the street.

Geetika Dayal, executive director, TiE Delhi says, "What separates an entrepreneur from the rest is either they do different things or do things differently. Through this initiative, we are encouraging people to think out of the box, to come out with images which represent entrepreneurship."

The panel of judges would comprise experts from both the organisations, and Canon plans to rope in an expert photographer as well. While Dayal says that TiE's judging criteria will focus on appropriate depiction of the theme, as well as the quality of the picture; Bharadwaj says Canon will look at the creative idea and what gets captured, instead of how it is being captured.

There are plans to showcase some of the good entries on the night of the event, where the winners will also be announced. While TiE is shouldering the responsibility of promoting the contest, Canon will present the winners with prizes. The first prize is a Canon Digicam Model Ixus 100 IS; the first runner-up gets a Canon Power Shot A 1100 IS and the second runner-up wins a Canon Laser Printer LBP 2900B.

The call for entries has already been made and JPEG images are required to be sent to photocontest@tienewdelhi.org. The submission deadline is fixed for September 10 by 8 pm.

For the record, TiE is a global not-for-profit organization dedicated to the advancement of entrepreneurship, representing talent, ideas and enterprise.
