Starcom receives applications for Academic Outreach Programme

The agency has received about 900 applications from premier management institutes of the country

The Starcom MediaVest Group (SMG) India is amongst the hotspots for taking up internships. The group has received more than 900 applications for its Indian Academic Outreach Programme for summer internship. The applications have come in from students of the premier management institutes of the country, including the Indian Institutes of Management (IIMs), Jamnalal Bajaj Institute of Management Studies, Mumbai and Faculty of Management Studies (FMS), Delhi.

Through the outreach programme, SMG is looking at striking a strong relationship with some of the leading management institutes in the country. Some of the initiatives under this programme include supporting the annual research or marketing conclaves of the educational institutes, speaking at campus forums and creating a structured internship programme.

Talking about the responses, Ravi Kiran, chief executive officer, South Asia, Starcom MediaVest Group, says in a media release, "SMG's positioning as leaders of 'consumer attention economy' has caught the fascination of these students. Capturing of consumer attention is a common buzzword in all the management campuses. This essence, which SMG has owned for the past three years, is now being echoed across business schools in India."

Digital marketing, rural marketing and entertainment marketing are the areas that seem to be a clear favourite among students.

Sandeep Lakhina, chief operating officer, South Asia, Starcom Worldwide, says, "Students are thrilled about the integrated marketing communications approach of SMG towards communication solutions. From digital marketing to rural marketing, from retail branding to branded content – the students are keen to learn the various skills and techniques of these multimedia touch points to target consumers."

Last summer, amongst other creative/media agencies in this space, SMG claims to have picked up the maximum number students from IIM Ahmedabad and FMS.
