Kevin Vaz elevated as president, ad sales, STAR Network

Prior to his elevation, Vaz was executive vice-president, STAR Network. He joined the organisation in 1996

STAR has elevated Kevin Vaz, executive vice-president, STAR Network as its president, ad sales.

Vaz, with an industry experience of close to 16 years, started his career in 1993. Of these, he has spent 13 years with STAR India. A commerce graduate from Mithibai College, Mumbai, he began with joining The Times of India (TOI) as assistant manager, where he handled advertising and marketing functions.

He joined STAR India in 1996, as a sales executive. He moved on to handle ad sales for the STAR Network's Hindi GEC (general entertainment channel) -- STAR Plus.

Having handled sales for STAR Plus for close to a year, Vaz assumed the role of head - sales, STAR Network. The same year, in 2004, he was promoted as senior vice-president, ad-sales, Network; and later as executive vice-president ad sales, STAR Network.

In the recent past, STAR India has shuffled its top rung a few times. Earlier this month, the responsibilities of Keertan Adyanthaya, executive vice-president and general manager, STAR Plus, were changed. He is now heading STAR India's English channels. In turn, Sanjay Gupta, chief operating officer, STAR India, took over Adyanthaya's role and now oversees matters at STAR Plus.

Gupta is being assisted by Gaurav Banerjee, vice-president and head, content, STAR Jalsha, the Bengali GEC of STAR India. The restructuring exercise at the media house is being seen as an attempt to regroup the organisation and work towards strengthening its position in the GEC space.
