GEC Watch: Overall decline in viewership in second week of 2010

The top four channels have lost several GRPs, compared to the first week of 2010

The general entertainment channels started the New Year on a positive note, with most channels witnessing a rise in GRPs, owing to special programming and blockbuster movies. The second week has them settling down, and hence, losing some viewership compared to the previous week.

Colors, the numero uno GEC, which had garnered 336 GRPs in Week 1, has 289 in Week 2. STAR Plus is just 14 GRPs behind Colors. The two channels have garnered 22 and 21 per cent share, respectively.

The No. 3 GEC, Zee has 268 GRPs in Week 2, compared to 284 in the previous week. The channel commands 20 per cent relative share of the GEC pie. Five of the top 10 shows on Hindi GECs are from Zee.

Sony, at No. 4, has witnessed a decline in share. With the launch of its new weekend line-up, it had recorded 180 GRPs. In Week 2, however, it has fallen to 151. The channel has garnered 11 per cent share in the latest week.

NDTV Imagine's share has increased to 7 per cent in Week 2. The channel, at No. 5, has 91 GRPs. SAB's position has remained intact. The channel is on par with DD1 in the latest week, with 6 per cent share.

STAR One has garnered 3 per cent share of the pie. Sahara One follows with 2 per cent; while STAR Utsav and 9X have 1 per cent share each.

On the list of 10 most watched programmes, Uttaran is back at No. 1, recording a high TVR of 6.8. It is followed by Na Aana Is Des Laado, which has garnered a TVR of 6.5. Pavitra Rishta is the third most watched programme with a TVR of 6.4. Yeh Rishta Kya Kehlata Hai follows closely with 6.3 TVR.

The other programmes on the list are: Balika Vadhu, Dance India Dance, Bidaai, Chhoti Bahu, Jhansi Ki Rani and Agle Janam Mohe Bitiya Hi Kijo.
