Rajat Sethi quits as MD, Dentsu Marcom

Sethi joined the agency in September last year

Rajat Sethi, managing director, Dentsu Marcom, has put in his papers at the agency. He joined the agency in September 2009. At that time, Sethi took over from Rajesh Aggarwal, who is now Dentsu India's president.

About putting in his papers in such a short span of time, Sethi tells afaqs!, "There were some differences and gaps in the leadership style and management."

A Harvard Business School alumnus, Sethi has worked in the areas of marketing, advertising and relationship marketing. He began his career in marketing in 1979 as a management trainee with Jenson & Nicholson. Spending four years there, he left the company as product manager in 1983.

His first stint in advertising was in 1983 with Lowe Lintas Mumbai. Five years later, he joined Bates 141 (then Clarion). In 1990, he moved to McCann, where he joined the Delhi branch as vice-president.

In 1995, he shifted to the direct marketing arm, Result McCann, as president and chief operating officer. He was with the agency till 2002.

In 2003, he took over as chief executive officer of Wunderman, Rediffusion Y&R's direct marketing outfit. He got elected to the board of directors there in 2006.

In 2007, Sethi moved to Reader's Digest International as country head. After spending two years there, he joined Dentsu Marcom.

Talking about his next destination, he reveals that he is considering a few options outside the realm of advertising; and will take a decision soon.

Sethi has been a jury member at the 50th Cannes Advertising Festival in the Direct Lions category. He has been recognized as the Agency Head of The Year by Media Magazine.
