Nestle ropes in R Chandrasekhar, former brand and media head of Bharti Airtel

Chandrasekhar will be involved in the marketing of Nescafe

Speculation was rife whether R Chandrasekhar, fondly known as Chandru, former head of brand and media at Bharti Airtel, would join a financial services company, after he put in his papers at the company in early February, as reported by afaqs!.

Sources have confirmed that Chandrasekhar is set to join the Nestlé beverages team at Gurgaon. He will report to Ajoy Titus, general manager - beverages and will be involved in marketing of the coffee brand, Nescafé.

Chandrasekhar was with Airtel for three years, where he played a key role in brand communication by building on the brand's emotional connect. He has over 13 years of experience, which includes working with Britannia and Marico.

Nestlé India, the unit of Swiss-based Nestlé, specialises in dairy products and other packaged foods. Its beverage segment includes Nescafé Classic, Nescafé Sunrise Premium and Special, Nescafé Cappuccino, Nestea Iced Tea and Nestea Instant Hot Tea Mixes. In 2009, the beverage segment contributed about 18 per cent to the revenue.

According to the company's presentation for 16th financial analysts' meet, Nescafé is positioned as No. 1 in instant coffee and has a very strong presence in vending.

Nestlé manufactures products under brand names such as Maggi, KitKat, Milkmaid, Milkybar, Everyday, and Munch. It has also introduced dairy products, including Nestlé Milk, Nestlé Slim Milk, Nestlé Fresh 'n' Natural Dahi and Nestlé Jeera Raita.
