Joy Chakraborthy to handle Zee Cafe and Zee Studio
Chakraborthy, chief revenue officer at ZEEL, was already handling other niche channels at ZEEL, including Zing, ETC Muzic and Zee Trendz
Joy Chakraborthy, chief revenue officer, Zee Entertainment Enterprises Limited (ZEEL), has been given the additional responsibility of handling two more niche channels of the company, including Zee Cafe and Zee Studio.
According to sources in the company, the move was necessitated as Sujoy Kutty, business head, Zee Cafe and Zee Studio, is all set to assist Nitin Vaidya, chief operating officer, ZEEL and business head, Zee TV. In his absence, these two channels were added to the responsibility of Anurag Bedi, business head, who is currently in charge of three other niche channels of ZEEL, including Zing, ETC Muzic and Zee Trendz.
Bedi will report to Chakraborthy, who is now all set to head ZEEL's cluster of five niche channels.
Recently, ZEEL has been abuzz with news. In February, it announced its plans of working towards a dedicated sports entity, as part of which Taj TV India - the wholly owned subsidiary of ZEEL - was made the new distribution entity for the group's sports channels, Zee Sports and Ten Sports. Earlier, Zee Turner was handling the two sports channels.
In another significant move in October 2009, the board of directors of ZEEL and Zee News Limited (ZNL) had approved the de-merger of ZNL's regional entertainment business (R-GEC) to ZEEL.
As a fall out of the move, Zee Entertainment got control over the six regional channels - Zee Marathi, Zee Talkies, Zee Bangla, Zee Telugu, Zee Kannada and Zee Cinemalu from January 2010.
The latest move appears to be another step in a long chain of organisational and structural changes being initiated at ZEEL.
