Internet search giant, Google has released its first 'Brand Zeitgeist' in India. The list highlights the most searched brands on the search engine, based on searches carried out in the last five months or so.
According to Brand Zeitgeist, the most searched brand on Google.co.in is mobile handset brand, Nokia. It is followed by SBI, Samsung, Sony, BSNL, Tata, IRCTC, HDFC, ICICI and Airtel, in that order.
Where Nokia is concerned, internet users mostly searched for mobile specifications and prices. In the case of bank brands, the most popular search keywords were 'online/net banking', 'cards' and 'insurance'. Searches for BSNL, Tata and Airtel brands were mostly related to 'broadband connections'. Users had also searched for 'motors' for the Tata brand.
LIC is the most searched brand in the insurance category, followed by ICICI Prudential and Bajaj Allianz. In the automobile space, Maruti is the most searched brand in cars; while Yamaha leads the motorbikes category. Google points out that a significant volume of searches were also for super bike brands such as Ducati and Hayabusa. IRCTC is the most searched brand in the travel category.
Other than the top searched brands on Google, the internet giant has also revealed data related to searches across five verticals -- telecom, automobiles, education, finance and travel.
Google points out that the volume of searches in the finance category went up by about 75 per cent; and 33 per cent of the searches in this category were for 'banking'. Online searches related to education witnessed year-on-year growth of over 45 per cent. Within the automobile category, the search volume related to motorbikes has grown by 125 per cent in the last one year.
