Aggarwal comes in from SpiceJet which became the only listed airline to have made a profit of over Rs 60 crore, a first since its inception in May 2005
Sanjay Aggarwal, ex-chief executive officer, SpiceJet has joined Kingfisher Airlines. He has come on-board as the new CEO.
Confirming the development, Vijay Mallya, chairman and managing director, says, "We look forward to a positive contribution from Sanjay in leading the growth and profitability of Kingfisher Airlines; whilst maintaining the highest level of service that has earned us the distinction of being India's only five-star rated and most awarded airline, in just six years since inception."
SR Gupte, vice-chairman, will continue to chair the executive committee, of which Aggarwal will become a member with immediate effect.
Aggarwal's most recent assignment was as CEO of SpiceJet. And it was during his tenure that the airline made a profit of over Rs 60 crore, a first since its inception in May 2005. He has a sound understanding of the Indian aviation industry and the various unique business imperatives in India.
Prior to joining SpiceJet, Aggarwal was COO of Flight Options, the world's second largest private jet provider. Before this, he had spent four years with Marriott International as senior director - IT, strategic and operations planning. He has also worked for US Airways for six years.
"The best part is that Aggarwal brings with him a unique blend of airline and hospitality experience, which is the hallmark of Kingfisher Airlines," adds Mallya.
