KVL Narayan Rao, group chief executive officer and executive director, New Delhi Television has been elected as the new president of News Broadcasting Association (NBA). He replaces Sameer Manchanda, joint managing director, IBN18 Broadcast. Rao confirms the development in a conversation with afaqs!.

Rao, who began his career as a journalist with the Indian Express, has been associated with the NDTV group since 1995 as general manager and later (since 1998) as executive director. In 2007, he was appointed group CEO. In his current role, Rao oversees the entire NDTV Group. Prior to joining NDTV, he was with the Indian Revenue Service.

Barun Das, chief executive officer, Zee News and honorary treasurer, NBA has been handed over new responsibilities and will now be vice-president, NBA. After completing B Tech from IIT Madras, he has held various positions at senior managerial levels in MCCS, Astro All Asia Networks, the India Today Group and the ABP Group.

Ashok Venkatramani, a member of the board of directors of NBA, has now been elected as the honorary treasurer, the post which was handled by Das till now. Venkatramani is the CEO of MCCS, a joint venture between STAR International (News Corp) and Anandabazar Patrika group.

This mechanical engineer from Mumbai is an MBA from IIM Ahmedabad. He started his career with Unilever and was associated with the group for 19 years.
