MTS' Prasun Kumar to join Sony Ericsson as marketing head

After three years at MTS, Kumar will now join the mobile handset manufacturer, Sony Ericsson.

After three years as director, brand, marketing and communication at MTS, Prasun Kumar is all set to join the mobile handset manufacturer, Sony Ericsson as head of marketing. This has been confirmed by a reliable source within the company.

Kumar is one of the persons behind the inception of MTS as a brand, earlier known as Rainbow in Rajasthan. MTS has a customer base of 4.5 million. It has licences for 22 circles in India, of which it is operational in 12, and intends to enter other circles as well in the current year.

With more than 15 years of experience, Kumar began his stint in advertising as an executive at Capital, moving on as manager at McCann Erickson after two years. At McCann, Kumar worked for four years, after which he shifted to Madison Media where he was associate director for two years. He then joined automobile giant General Motors (GM) as senior marketing manager. He left GM to join Levi's as head of brand activation, where he worked for over two years. He then moved to MTS, a joint venture between the Russian telecom company Sistema, and Shyam Telelink.
