Amar Ujala AMCL 2011: Allied Media, Dainik Jagran and DraftFCB Ulka taste victory in league matches in Delhi

With two maiden overs bowled for the first time in the tournament, an impressive bowling attack was the highlight of the day.

It was an action-packed day in Delhi, with three matches being played. While Allied Media beat Aegis Media, Dainik Jagran scored over Dentsu and DraftFCB Ulka emerged the winner against Images Bazaar.

Aegis Media versus Allied Media

The first match of the day was between Aegis Media and Allied Media. Confident from their previous win, Aegis won the toss and decided to bat first. However, the team wrapped up its innings at 99 runs, which meant that their chances of winning were bleak. Aegis lost five wickets, of which Surender of Team Allied took three.

Allied Media, which incidentally, played its first match in AMCL, reached the set run target in eight overs. The chasing team put up an interesting performance, losing only one of its opening batsmen in breaching the 100-run target.

Rohit Sharma, the highest scoring batsman of the tournament this season, was not in his element and was caught by Nitesh on a ball by Surender. Gaurav Batra of Allied Media, who was bowled by Rahul of Team Aegis made 47 runs (off 27 balls, 9X4, 1X6). He was declared the Man of the Match for his crucial 47-run knockout and two-wicket haul. Thus, Allied scored a comfortable seven-wicket win over the opponents.

Dainik Jagran versus Dentsu

Deciding to bat first, Dentsu set a 128-run target for Team Dainik Jagran. At one point, after a loss of four wickets, the creative agency seemed like ceding territory to its opponent, but subsequently added 29 more runs to its kitty.

Sudhir Varanasi was the star batsman, scoring 61 runs (off 25 deliveries, 9X4, 3X6). Faizullah and Aakash, who scored 20 runs each, helped Sudhir.

Team Dainik Jagran was determined to take the winning lap, though. Pawan, with his unbeaten 104 runs (off 27 balls, 7x4, 12x6) made his team's victory a cakewalk. The century (scored with just fours and sixes) was accompanied by a two-wicket haul, which meant that Pawan proudly took home the Man of the Match trophy.

Dainik Jagran won the match by six wickets. The high point of this match was the first maiden over of the tournament, bowled by Faizullah Siddiquee of Team Dentsu.

DraftFCB Ulka versus Images Bazaar

This was the last, and perhaps, the most engaging match of the day. Bringing alive the whole ground with its cheers, Team DraftFCB Ulka batted first and established a mighty target of 174 runs.

Displaying strong partnership and steady batting, the opening pair of Arun Rawat and Sumeet Sharma collectively added 136 runs to the team's kitty. While the former completed his half- century, the latter scored 82 runs (off 25 balls, 10X4, 6X6).

At one point in the match, it seemed that the opening duo wanted to win the match without going back to the stands, but Kailash of Team Images Bazaar thought otherwise. Bowling a Yorker that was caught by Vikas, the bowler sent Arun back.

When it was team Dentsu's turn to bat, Aniruddh Pahwa of DraftFCB took two wickets in the three overs he bowled. The focussed bowling line-up of the team ensured that the opponent was nowhere close to the target.

Amid tight bowling and impressive fielding by the bowling side, Team Images Bazaar wound up at 77 runs, losing five wickets. Thus, DraftFCB Ulka won the match by 98 runs. Sumeet Sharma was adjudged the Man of the Match for his 82-run knock, which helped his team to sail to victory.
