Surajit Roy joins liquor company Globus Spirits

Roy, who has joined the company as a consultant, will look after the marketing of Globus Spirits and its sister concern Grass Academy.

Globus Spirits, the Delhi-based liquor company has appointed the ex-branch head of Contract Advertising Delhi, Surajit Roy as consultant, marketing. Based out of the capital, Roy will report to Ajay Swarup, managing director of the company.

Roy will have a two-fold role in the company. He will manage the brand and identity of Globus Spirits' sister concern, Grass Academy. He will also advise Globus Spirits on managing its liquor brands and will take care of the brands' communication and advertising.

On taking up this role, Roy says, "I believe ad professionals are half marketing professionals. Half of the time, we have to work on go-to-market strategies and learn the nitty-gritty of the area. I have been in the advertising industry for a long period. And, when this opportunity came along, I took it up, as I am sure it would help me to grow as a marketing professional."

The 19-year-old Globus Spirits sells whiskey under the brand names, 20-20 Premium and Samurai Gold. It is also known for Hannibal Legendary Rum, White Lace Gin and White Lace Duet Gin.

Roy has spent about 25 years in the advertising industry. He had been with Contract since 2005, and looked after all the brands handled out of the Delhi office, with special focus on NIIT, Del Monte and Domino's.

Before Contract, he was the vice-president and client services director at JWT. He started his career in advertising with Grey Worldwide. After a three-month stint at the agency, he moved to JWT in 1986, where he worked for 19 years. In addition to his client servicing duties, Roy took charge of JWT's Chandigarh office as well. Some of the accounts that Roy has worked on are Thompson's social portfolio, ESPN, Cargill Purita, Timex, and Frito Lay.
