Amar Ujala AMCL 2011: Jagran Group shines through Delhi regional finals, enters tournament finals

Two consistent performers and tournament favourites clashed against each other, bringing the curtains down on the last day of action for the Delhi chapter of Amar Ujala AMCL.

Jagran Group versus Lowe Lintas

The first semi-final match had Team Jagran Group facing Team Lowe Lintas. The former won the toss and opted to field first. Team Jagran Group set a decent run target of 164 runs. But, Pawan Kumar, the opener from Team Jagran, got unlucky when Gursharan stumped him on a ball by Damodaran, at 99 runs (off 39 balls, 12X4, 5X6).

Damodaran proved the most damaging bowler as he snapped three wickets of Team Jagran. The batting line-up from Team Lowe lacked co-ordination while making just 82 runs in 10 overs.

Team Jagran won the semi-finals by 81 runs. Pawan Kumar was adjudged the Man of the Match for his decisive run rally.

Mercantile versus Noshe

The next semi-final match of the day was between Team Mercantile and Team Noshe.

Team Mercantile won the toss and decided to bat first. Setting a target of 150 runs, Team Mercantile displayed the will to win. Daivesh Shah of Team Mercantile scored 76 runs (off 33 deliveries, 8X4, 5X6). Mohd Mobeen, who won the the Man of the Match trophy twice for his bowling prowess, clinched two wickets in this match, as well.

Himanshu and Vikas Kapoor of Team Noshe tried breaching the target, but their side wrapped the innings in 109 runs. Team Mercantile won the match by 40 runs. Daivesh Shah, who scored 76 runs, was declared the Man of the Match.

Jagran Group versus Mercantile

The last face-off in the Delhi leg of Amar Ujala AMCL was between the two most consistent teams - the well- coordinated Team Jagran Group, which has been a successful run chaser, and Team Mercantile, the side that has been setting formidable run targets.

Team Mercantile won the toss and decided to bat first. Setting a target of 123 runs, Team Mercantile had set its sights upon a semi-final victory. But, the star batsman of the side, Daivesh Shah was unlucky to get out at two runs. The highest scorer from the side was Rahul Daggar, with an unbeaten 40 runs (off 11 balls, 2X4, 4X6).

Team Jagran's opening pair of Pawan Kumar and Tarun made the going easier for their side by lapping up 111 runs, collectively (off 45 balls, 10X4, 8X4). In a face-off that would be remembered as one fiercely fought, Team Jagran chased the set target, and won the semi-finals by five wickets.

Tarun of Team Jagran was declared the Man of the Match for his 61-run-rally (off 23 deliveries, 7X4, 4X6). Team Jagran qualified for the tournament finals, which is to be held in Mumbai.
