Facebook.com has emerged as the second largest platform for watching online videos on the internet. A report on online video viewing in India, published by the audience monitoring firm comScore, points out that in January, 6.6 million online users (above 15 years of age) in India, watched more than 30 million videos on Facebook. The time spent by each online video viewer on Facebook was about 12 minutes.

About 30.2 million online users in India watched online videos in January 2011. The study did not consider videos watched from public computers such as internet cafes or access from mobile phones, or PDAs.

As expected, Google-owned websites were the leading online video destinations. Overall, 23.5 million visitors watched 785 million videos on Google-owned video properties. The report mentions that a majority of the video traffic on the Google sites was on YouTube.com.

Metacafe.com emerged as the third-most visited video destination in India. About 4 million visitors viewed 33 million videos on the site in January. Yahoo! (2.8 million viewers, and more than 10 million videos views) and Dailymotion.com (2.7 million viewers, and more than 24 million videos views) stood fourth and fifth in the list of most-visited video destinations, respectively.

Network18 and Rediff.com India ranked among the Top 10 largest video properties, reaching 1.2 million and 8,61,000 viewers, respectively.

In an official communiqué, Joe Nguyen, vice-president, Southeast Asia, comScore, says, "Online video viewing is quickly becoming a central activity for internet users in India. As broadband penetration in India continues to increase, we expect to see online video viewership continue to grow and become an increasingly important channel for marketers to reach audiences in the burgeoning Indian online market."
