When Gourav Tandon quit Mediascope Publicitas as chief operating officer, nobody had a clue that he would start his own out of home (OOH) agency, Apex Integrated Marketing (AIM).
AIM will have fully functional branches across all the six metros in the country -- Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata, Bengaluru, Chennai and Hyderabad.
The company is also in the process of hiring new people on board. Says Tandon, "Our industry is governed by relationships. Being a part of this business for over a decade has its own advantages, especially in matters of rapport building and having faith in talented individuals. This helps in getting the right people on board."
Speaking about setting up his own venture, Tandon says, "Every human being has an entrepreneurial bent of mind, provided one gets the right opportunities. Even at the cost of sounding immodest, the years I have given to this industry have given me the resilience and motivation to put my entrepreneurial skills to test. The idea is not to be a part of the bandwagon, but to create short-term goals, and move ahead by contributing substantially to this trade of ours."
Tandon has more than 15 years of experience in the OOH media business and has worked on all aspects of OOH including printing, signages, acquisition and sale of media, as well as planning and buying.
He began his career with GMS Technologies, and then worked with agencies such as MOMS, Aaren Initiative, Ogilvy. He has also worked for Clear Channel, where he handled the assets and AOR divisions for the Northern region, and for Mediascope Publicitas where he looked after the newly-formed OOH business.
Tandon had the opportunity to work with brands such as LG, Emaar MGF, Voltas, Michelin Tyres, Yamaha, Sony Ericsson, and Panasonic, amongst others.First Published : April 15, 2011
