IAMAI appoints Hitesh Oberoi as chairman

Hemant Sachdev, joint managing director, Microsoft Corporation, will be the new vice-chairman.

The Internet and Mobile Association of India (IAMAI) has appointed Hitesh Oberoi, co-founder and chief executive officer, Info Edge, as its new chairman. Prior to Oberoi, Shailesh Rao, managing director, Google India, was the chairperson. Hemant Sachdev, joint managing director, Microsoft Corporation, will be the new vice-chairman. Sachdev has replaced Ambareesh Murty, who is country manager of eBay India.

Dhruv Shringi, founder and chief executive officer, Yatra.com, will be the new treasurer of IAMAI. He will take over from Nalin Shinghal, director -- tourism, IRCTC.

In an official communiqué, Oberoi says, "The digital industry is at an inflection point and is growing steadily. IAMAI, which has been working persistently towards the growth of the medium, is also growing. We plan to engage more closely with the government to ensure that the online industry registers a balanced growth in the years to come, and the internet user base widens."

IAMAI is a non-profit organisation with the mandate to expand and enhance the online and mobile value-added services sectors. It consists of two segments -- the governing council and the executive council. The governing council is the highest elected representative body of the IAMAI which sets the strategic direction of the association and comprises chief executive officers of various internet and mobile content companies. The executive council of the IAMAI is responsible for the execution of the annual strategy of the IAMAI as set by its governing council.
