Talking about the reasons of quitting Mail Today, Rai says, "Actually, the reason is very personal. I always wanted to have something of my own. It was a coincidence that some of my friends were starting something. I thought it to be the right time to quit and start afresh."

With almost two decades of experience in marketing, Rai has been associated with the Mail Today since its inception in October 2007. It is to be noted that under his leadership, Mail Today reached a readership of two lakh within three years of its launch, and managed to make Mail Today a well-known brand, both among the readers and advertisers in so short a time.

Prior to Mail Today, he had a short stint with HCL Technologies as category marketing manager. Rai has also worked with Hindustan Times as senior brand manager, for a little over three years. It is to be noted that he was also a part of the launch of the Mumbai edition of the national daily.

Apart from this, he has worked with advertising agencies like Rediffusion-Y&R, and Lowe as brand manager at the beginning of his career.

Rai is an Economics graduate from Hindu College, Delhi University, which was followed with a degree in Management from the Indian Institute of Management, Calcutta (IIMC).
