The New Indian Express ropes in Vignesh Kumar as vice-president, marketing

His last assignment was with Tata Sky.

The New Indian Express has roped in Vignesh Kumar K as vice-president, marketing. He replaces V Natarajan.

Kumar, who will be based in Chennai, will report to Manoj Kumar Sonthalia, chairman and managing director, The New Indian Express Group.

Prior to this, Kumar was general manager, Tata Sky, Tamil Nadu and Kerala, for three years. During his 21-year-long career, Kumar worked extensively with telecom brands such as Reliance Communications, Airtel and BPL Mobile.

He started his telecom journey as a sales executive with Nelco (National Radio and Electronics), a Tata Group venture. His next stop was the Shaw Wallace Group, where he worked for around four years, followed by Mobilink Paging Services. He was associated with Reliance Communications for around six years, before moving on to Tata Sky.

Sharing his immediate plan of action, Kumar says, "My objective is to consolidate the position of New Indian Express in the South and maximise revenues by building the readership numbers."

About his decision to take a plunge in the media sector, Kumar adds, "The Indian media sector is in a challenging space right now. The explosion has just started, and I feel it is a good time to enter the sector."

Kumar is a telecom engineer by profession, and holds an Engineering degree in Electronics, as well as an MBA degree from the Madurai Kamaraj University.
