Opera launches Opera Mini 7 browser for Android

The app available in the Android Market promises to make browsing the web on the phone faster and smoother.

Android users have something to cheer about as Opera Software has announced the launch of the latest version of the popular Opera Mini browser -- Opera Mini 7 in a final version for Android phones.

The new browser promises enriched web browsing experience on phones by making it faster and panning around sites smoother with improved hardware acceleration.

Among the various features, Opera Mini 7 enables the user to have as many Speed Dial (Bookmark) buttons as against the usual nine on the Home Screen. The users will hence be able to add all sites that they want to see on starting the browser and access websites quickly without having to type the address.

One of the significant offerings is the improved page compression technology of Opera. With the ability of the browser to compress, squeeze and jam webpages from the network into the phone, up to 90 per cent of the original data will get cut out on the Opera Mini 7, claims Opera Software. Users will hence use less data and be able to surf much faster. This will particularly prove beneficial to those on expensive data plans.

The version will also support HTML5 sites better and deliver a richer mobile gaming experience with the WebGL hardware acceleration.

Opera Mini 7 can be downloaded from the Android Market or http://m.opera.com/.
