The Inquilab to celebrate 100 years of Indian cinema in Mumbai

The Urdu daily has increased its print run for the edition by 50 per cent and pegged the cover price of the issue at Rs 10 per copy.

The Inquilab, the Urdu daily of Jagran Prakashan (JPL), has come out with a special issue in Mumbai to celebrate 100 years of Indian cinema today (May 25). The special issue of The Inquilab captures how Indian cinema has evolved over the century.

The special supplement will trace the story of the largest film industry across a glorious century, right from Raja Harishchandra to Raja Hindustani and Dabangg. The content mix of the issue will trace the beginning of the film industry, the journey through the middle age, the contributions of individuals and institutions and the latest trends and stars.

The issue will have 48 tabloid-sized coloured pages centrally pinned in a magazine format, apart from the regular 14 pages of the main edition, a first for the newspaper. The special supplement has been done only for the Mumbai edition of The Inquilab, which has 11 other editions across India. The daily has also increased the print run of its Mumbai edition by over 50 per cent for the day. The cover price has been increased from Rs 5 to Rs 10 for the issue.

Talking to afaqs! about the special issue, Manajit Ghoshal, managing director and CEO, Mid Day Infomedia, says, "We plan to increase the print run by more than 50 per cent as we expect a rush from our readers to get this collectors issue. Already, calls are pouring in enquiring about the specifics. We keep doing a lot of community connect activities and special features for the Muslim community. However, this feature is unique because cinema cuts across all communities and appeals to all age groups. This issue will be a collector's item for keeps and all advertisers in this issue will have a longer shelf life as compared to other features."

The newspaper has roped in brands such as Navratan Oil (Emami), Green Acres, Krish Arts, Kamdhenu departmental stores, Atlanta Builders and Suvidh, among others, for the issue.

For the record, the 73-year old newspaper claims to reach out to more than 6 lakh readers. It covers international, national and local news, business guidance, women empowerment and related issues, career guidance, films and sports.
