The annual report is a global index of creative excellence in advertising and compiles successful print, television and digital advertising campaigns of the year by going through the important award contests across the globe to set up worldwide league tables for the advertising industry. The report carries entries in categories such as Top 10 TV, Print, Digital and All Gunns Blazing ads.

Joshi, who wrote the introductory comment, states, "It's both an interesting as well as challenging time for our Industry, as it gets redefined. To create work that rises above the challenge of this changing world, media and mind space around us is no mean feat."

Noting his experience while going through various campaigns, Joshi mentions in his introductory comment about Samudra Manthan. He compares the best works that come out of the entire sifting process to the gems that emerged while the gods in Hindu mythology churned the oceans. Joshi was also part of the final selections that went in 'The Showreel of The Year' book.

Gunn Report's first edition came out in 1999 and provides an authoritative analysis of advertising campaigns done around the world. It also republishes findings that earn mention in industry journals and mainstream newspapers. Some of the previous editors of The Gunn Report include Mark Tutssel, chief creative officer, worldwide for Leo Burnett; Rémi Babinet, chief creative officer of Euro RSCG Worldwide; and Howard Draft, founder and chief executive chairman of Draftfcb, among others.
