E-commerce marketplace eBay India (www.ebay.in), a 100 per cent subsidiary of eBay Inc., has announced the appointment of Alok Agarwal as director, marketing with immediate effect. His mandate includes driving engagement with consumers across platforms.
In February, eBay's former CMO, Kashyap Vadapalli resigned to join lifestyle e-commerce marketplace Pepperfry.com as CMO and head of new business.
Agarwal says in an official communiqué, "Distribution in India is complex, and with more than a decade of healthy growth, demand and supply are even more widely dispersed. The conventional multi-tier distribution model will be hard-pressed to make demand and supply meet. With my new role at eBay India, I look forward to playing match-maker between brands, entrepreneurs and consumers."
Muralikrishnan B, country manager, eBay India, adds that e-commerce in India is at an 'inflection point' and Agarwal's expertise will help enhance the company's growth trajectory in India.
An alumnus of IIT Mumbai and IIM Bengaluru, Agarwal has worked in the area of consumer and FMCG marketing across the Asia-Pacific region with stints at companies such as Mahindra, Unilever, Cadbury's and Sara Lee.
Interestingly, his favourite online shopping purchase is a book.
Founded in September 1995, eBay.com is a global online marketplace with presence in 39 markets. eBay India has over four million registered users from more than 3,311 cities in India.
