GECs losing grip on viewership due to IPL

Zee TV and SAB TV are the only Hindi general entertainment channels to gain viewership in the fourth week of IPL 6.

In Week 17 of 2013 (as per TAM Media Research data provided by subscribers), the No. 1 channel, Star Plus, has lost 18 points, falling from 233 GRPs to 215 GRPs (C&S 4+, HSM). Five of the channel's shows featured in the Top 10 rankings. The channel's new fiction property, India's Dancing Superstar, was launched this week.

At No. 2, Zee TV has added 22 points, growing from 169 GRPs in Week 16, to 191 GRPs in Week 17. Meanwhile, the channel could push three of its fiction properties to the list of top ten shows.

At No. 3, Colors from the Viacom 18 stable has witnessed marginal drop in viewership, from 167 GRPs in Week 16 to 164 GRPs in Week 17. It could get four of its properties in the top shows.

MSM's Sony continues to be at No. 4 after losing a position in the tally last week. It has lost 15 points to come down to 150 GRPs (from 165 GRPs last week). Thus, the gap between the No. 3 and No. 4 players widens. The channel couldn't get any of its shows to the top shows' list. However, the premiere of Yash Chopra film, Jab Tak Hai Jaan, fetched Sony 2.4 TVRs, at No. 10.

However, its sister channel, SAB, has added 2 GRPs to stand at 125 GRPs, continuing to feature its flagship property Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltaah Chashmaah in the top shows' list.

Next, Life OK lost two GRPs to stand at 101 points in Week 17. Sahara One stands last with 20 GRPs, having lost one point since last week.

Diya Aur Baati Hum on Star Plus (3.9 TVR), Qubool Hai on Zee TV (3.5 TVRs) are the top two shows in the current week that ended on April, 27, 2013. Sapne Suhane Ladakpan Ke (Zee TV) and Pyaar Ka Dard Hai (Star Plus) stand at third position with 3.2 TVRs each.

Balika Vadhu and Madhubala on Colors stand next with 3.0 and 2.9 TVRs, respectively. Yeh Rishta Kya Kehlata Hai on Star Plus and Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltaah Chashmaah share the sixth spot, each scoring 2.8 TVRs.

The other top shows on the GECs in order are Uttaran (2.7 TVRs) on Colors and Saathiya Saath Nibhana (2.6 TVRs) on Star Plus at No. 7 and No. 8, respectively. At No. 9, Pavitra Rishta (Zee TV), India's Dancing Superstar (Star Plus) and Sasural Simar Ka (Colors) jointly occupy the spot with 2.5 TVRs each.
