GEC Watch: SAB catches up with Sony

While all Hindi GECs have gained numbers in Week 31 of TAM, Star Plus was the biggest gainer in terms of Television Viewership in Thousands (TVT).

SAB, the second rung Hindi GEC from Multi Screen Media, has finally toppled elder sibling Sony Entertainment Television with an addition of 20979 TVT in Week 31. For the past few weeks, the channel had been gaining momentum. SAB garnered 320558 TVT this week, moving ahead of Sony Entertainment Television by 952 TVT.

Meanwhile, Star Plus, the flagship Hindi general entertainment channel from the STAR India stable, continues to lead the genre with 505925 TVT in Week 31 as compared to 473998 TVT in the previous week. Four of the shows of Star Plus featured in the top 10 shows' list. The channel aired the Grand Finale of its dancing reality show, India's Dancing Superstar, on August 3, that fetched 5503 TVT.

As per TAM data (HSM, 4+, C&S, including LC1 markets) provided by a TAM subscriber, Colors took the second spot with 456365 TVT, 762 TVTs more from Week 30. Three of the shows of Colors appeared in the top shows' chart. The channel had premiered Yamla Pagla Deewana-2 on July 28 that registered 3304 TVT, 2665 TVT and 1881 TVT at the 12 pm, 3 pm and 6 pm airings respectively.

Zee TV held on to the third spot with an addition of 26264 TVT to register 367073 TVT. Its successful show Qubool Hai was one of the most watched shows in Week 31 (July 28-August 3). The channel had aired Gold Awards on July 28 that clocked 2309 TVT at the 1 pm airing and 2321 TVT at the 5.30 pm airing.

SAB garnered 320558 TVT. SAB's Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah and its maha episode witnessed good viewership and were there in the top shows' list.

Sony settled for 319606 TVT.

At No. 6, STAR India's second GEC, Life OK, added 210 TVT to gross 240191 TVT.

Sahara One, with 36253 TVT (previous week 33964 TVT) remained at the bottom of the ladder.

Star Plus' Diyaa Aur Baati Hum continued to be the most watched show on Hindi GECs with average TVT of 10332 (previous week 9133). This is followed by SAB's Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah that fetched 8161 TVT (previous week 7724 TVT).

At No.3 is Colors' Balika Vadhu that got 7308 TVT (previous week 8018 TVT). It is followed by Zee TV's Qubool Hai that clocked 7213 TVT (previous week 7380) in this week. Next is Star Plus' Yeh Rishta Kya Kehlata Hai and SAB's Tarak Mehta Ooltah Chashma Maha episode that recorded 6749 TVT and 6437 TVT, respectively.

Occupying the No.7 spot is Star Plus' Pyaar Ka Dard, average TVT of which was 6090 (5939 TVT in the previous week). It is followed by Colors' Comedy Nights With Kapil that witnessed 6059 TVT. The ninth spot is grabbed by Star Plus' Saathiya Saath Nibhana with 5779 TVT (previous week 5460 TVT) followed by Colors' Sasural Simar Ka with 5330 TVT (previous week 5658 TVT).
