GEC Watch: Zee TV matches up with Colors

Week 41 saw Zee TV and Colors share the second spot. Both the channels grossed around 407000 GVTs in the week ended October 12. While Zee TV recorded 415000 GVTs in the last week, Colors settled at 476000 GVTs.

Star Plus, the flagship Hindi general entertainment channel from the STAR India stable, continues to lead the genre with 465000 GVTs in Week 40 as compared to 501000 GVTs in the previous week. Four of the shows of Star Plus featured in the top 10 shows' list.

As per TAM data (HSM, 4+, C&S, including LC1 markets) provided by a TAM subscriber, Zee TV shared the second spot in the Hindi GEC hierarchy with Viacom18's Colors. Both the channels grossed 407000 GVTs in the week ended October 12. While Zee TV recorded 415000 GVTs in the last week, Colors settled at 476000 GVTs .Three of the shows of Colors appeared in the top shows' chart while two of Zee TV's shows occupied two spots on the chart.

At No.4 is Life OK with 345000 GVTs (last week 347000 GVTs). Life OK is followed by Sony Entertainment Television with 313000 GVTs (last week 323000 GVTs). Its popular crime-based show CID featured in the top shows' list.

SAB TV, meanwhile, grossed 292000 GVTs in the week. It had registered 317000 GVTs in the previous week. Its flagship show Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashma found its place in the top 10 shows' list, again.

Star Plus' Diyaa Aur Baati Hum continued to be the most watched show on Hindi GECs with an average of 9200 TVTs (last week 9900). This is followed by Zee TV's Jodha Akbar that fetched 8800 TVTs (last week 9300 TVTs).

At No. 3 is SAB TV's Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashma with 6900 TVTs (last week 8500 TVTs). Next are Colors' Balika Vadhu that got 6600 TVTs (previous week 6800 TVTs) and Comedy Nights with Kapil that garnered 6500 TVTs (last week 6600 TVTs).

The sixth spot is occupied by Star Plus' Pyaar Ka Dard and Saathiya Saath Nibhana that shared the spot with 6300 TVTs. At No.7 is Yeh Rishta Kya Kehlata Hai that clocked 6000 TVTs (last week 7600 TVTs).

At No. 8 is Sony's C.I.D that notched 5300 TVTs (last week 7000 TVTs). Zee TV's Sapne Suhane Ladakpan Ke closed the week with 5100 TVTs (last week 6500 TVTs) while Colors' Sasural Simar Ka closed the week with 4700 TVTs (last week 5200 TVTs).

For the record, the figures mentioned are approximate TVT figures. TVT is television viewership in 1000s (TVR in 1000). It is the average number of Individuals in '000s that are available at any given minute of a programme/day part that is under consideration. It captures growth in TV audiences in the country in absolute numbers. The TVR system, in contrast, works on percentages.
