GEC Watch: Zee TV moves up as Colors and Sony slip from their positions

Week 42 saw Zee TV taking over the second spot from Colors. The difference between the two channels was of 24808 GVTs.

Star Plus, the flagship Hindi general entertainment channel from the STAR India stable, continues to lead the genre with 517048 GVTs in Week 42 as compared to 464989 GVTs in the previous week. Five of the shows of Star Plus featured in the top 10 shows' list.

As per TAM data (HSM, 4+, C&S, including LC1 markets) provided by a TAM subscriber, Zee TV moved ahead of Colors to occupy the second spot in the Hindi GEC hierarchy. The channels grossed 409304 GVTs (previous week 406987) in the week ended October 19. Zee TV's two shows occupied spots on the chart.

Colors, meanwhile settled on 384496 GVTs as compared to 407337 GVTs in the earlier week. Two of the shows of Colors appeared in the top shows' chart. 24808 GVTs separated Colors from Zee TV.

At No. 4 is SAB TV with 319214 GVTs (last week291781 GVTs). Its flagship show Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashma found its place in top 10 shows' list, again.

SAB TV is followed by Life OK as Sony Entertainment Television slips to No.6.

Life OK and Sony closed the week with 316904 GVTs (previous week 344750 GVTs) and 292327 GVTs (previous week 313411 GVTs), respectively.

Star Plus' Diyaa Aur Baati Hum continued to be the most watched show on Hindi GECs with average TVT of 9981 TVTs (last week 9243 TVTs). This is followed by Zee TV's Jodha Akbar that fetched 8551 TVTs (last week 8777 TVTs).

At No. 3 is SAB TV's Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashma with 7224 TVTs (last week 6946 TVTs). Next three positions are occupied by Star Plus' Saathiya Saath Nibhana, Pyaar Ka Dard and Yeh Rishta Kya Kehlata Hai with 7007 TVTs, 6878 TVTs and 6819 TVTs, respectively.

Colors' Balika Vadhu that got 5767 TVTs (previous week 6624 TVTs) was placed at No. 7, as Zee TV's Qubool Hai grabbed the eighth spot with 5412 TVTs (previous week 5676 TVTs).

Comedy Nights with Kapil garnered 5228 TVTs (last week 6518) and was the next most watched show. Star Plus' Mahabharat was at No. 10 with 4815 TVTs (last week 4523 TVTs).

For the record, the figures mentioned are approximate TVT figures. TVT is television viewership in 1000s (TVR in 1000). It is the average number of Individuals in '000s that are available at any given minute of a programme/day part that is under consideration. It captures growth in TV audiences in the country in absolute numbers. The TVR system, in contrast, works on percentages.
