Ibibo Group has announced the appointment of Rammohan Sundaram as CEO of its advertising business, ibibo Ads. Earlier, Sundaram was chairman and MD at PlatformPlay Media Ventures, which has now been fully merged with Smile Vun Group's (SVG) Precision Match. Earlier, SVG had held majority stake in the company.
Sundaram has been a serial entrepreneur with two initiatives in the recent past, one being NetworkPlay, which was acquired by the Bertelsmann Group. In March 2013, Sundaram launched his new venture named PlatformPlay Media with a focus to create more opportunities for advertisers through communication on the digital platform. It aimed to bring various international digital publishers into India.
Commenting on the development, Ashish Kashyap, group CEO, Ibibo, says, "All our internal e-commerce organisations have immensely benefited from the ibibo Ads platform. We want to now expand our retargeting platform to external e-commerce players in the market. We are very excited to get Ram to partner with us on the ibibo Ads initiative. We believe that in Ram we have an entrepreneur and leader who understands the online advertising business well enough to scale it."
On his new role, Sundaram says, "I am excited about this opportunity, given that I always wanted to build a platform that has potential to globally scale. I am extremely confident of building the best possible retargeting and behavioural targeting platform in the next couple of quarters. The team is talented and has built a great affiliate business and I am really looking forward to scale the platform."
Sundaram has earlier worked with Yahoo India, Tribal DDB, Madison Communications, Jobsahead.com (Monster World Wide Company), Encore Events, Microland Group and Indian Express.
