The viewership of the Hindi GEC genre has taken a hit because of the IPL. The ratings of all channels but SAB TV have dropped.

The seventh edition of the Indian Premiere League (IPL) seems to have impacted the viewership of the Hindi general entertainment genre as all channels except SAB TV (that gained marginally) have seen a dip in numbers.

As per TAM data (HSM, C&S, 4+, including LC1 markets) provided by a subscriber, Star Plus maintains a lead in the genre with a good margin. The channel lost 13440 GVTs in Week 19 to register 732585 GVTs, but is still way ahead of its competitors. Seven of its shows appeared in the top 10 shows' list.

Star Plus had aired the premiere of Yaariyan on May 4 at 1 pm. The movie fetched a viewership of about 4900 TVTs.

At No.2 is Zee TV that concluded the week with 394786 GVTs, as compared to 409010 GVTs in the previous week. The channel managed to push its historical drama Jodha Akbar to the top shows' chart. Colors followed with 375641 GVTs, 20552 GVTs less as compared the previous week's numbers. Its comedy non-fiction remains the most watched show in the genre as it also featured in the top shows' chart.

Next in the ranking was Life OK with 347802 GVTs (last week 360213 GVTs).

SAB TV, the only gainer in the week, was at No. 6 with 268051 GVTs (last week 267113 GVTs) and Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah made it to the top shows' list.

Star Plus' Diya Aur Baati Hum continued to be the most watched show on Hindi GECs with an average of 10525 TVTs. This was followed by the channel's Saathiya Saath Nibhana that fetched a viewership of 8507 TVTs.

Zee TV's Jodha Akbar stood next with 8450 TVTs. Star Plus' Yeh Rishta Kya Kehlata Hai took the fourth spot with 7257 TVTs.

At No.5 was Colors' Comedy Nights with Kapil that got 6923 TVTs in the week ended May 10.

The next four spots were occupied by Star Plus' Yeh Hai Mohabbatein (6748 TVTs), Veera (6385 TVTs), Mahabharat (6324 TVTs) and Pyaar Ka Dard (6294 TVTs).

SAB TV's Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah took the last spot in the hierarchy with 5198 TVTs.

For the record, TVT is television viewership in 1000s (TVR in 1000). It is the average number of individuals in '000s that are available at any given minute of a programme/day part that is under consideration. It captures growth in TV audiences in the country in absolute numbers. The TVR system, in contrast, works on percentages.
