GEC Watch: Star Plus, Colors, Sab TV and Sony Pal gain in week 37

The Hindi GEC hierarchy remained largely unchanged. Sony Pal toppled Sahara One to enter the top 10.

Star Plus maintained its lead in the genre with 594923 GVTs, a compared to 591045 GVTs in the previous week, as per TAM data (HSM, C&S, 4+), provided by a subscriber. The channel has been seeing its viewership take a hit and has managed to push only two of its shows to the Top 10 most watched shows in the genre' list.

Zee TV held on to the second spot. Though it lost numbers to settle for 431746 GVTs, (last week 451717), four of its shows appeared in the top shows list. Colors cam in next with 416675 GVTs, a marginal rise from last week's 399182 GVTs. The channel is launching the annual, Salman Khan-hosted Bigg Boss 8, which is expected to give a boost to its viewership. Two of its shows featured in the chart.

Life OK and Sab TV, the second rung GECs from Star India and Multi Screen Media closed the week with 313012 GVTs (last week 326081) and 292474 GVTs (last week 287945), respectively. Next was MSM's flagship Hindi GEC that grossed 262507 GVTs in week 37 of TAM, as opposed to 286594 GVTs in the previous week.

Star Utsav rated 91189 GVTs (last week 91049), Zee Anmol clocked 73983 GVTs (last week 80969), while Zindagi grossed 30016 GVTs (last week 34888) in the week ended September 13. Sony Pal added numbers to clock around 2100 GVTs (last week 1100) as Sahara One remained at the bottom with 12915 GVTs (last week 14196).

A look at the shows...

Zee TV's Kumkum Bhagya and Jodha Akbar are the two most watched shows in the genre with 8439 TVTs and 7898 TVTs, respectively. The next two are Star Plus' Diya Aur Baati Hum and Saathiya Saath Nibhana that concluded the week with 7730 TVTs and 7708 TVTs, respectively.

At No.5 stood Sab's Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah with 7278 TVTs. It was followed by Zee TV's Jamai Raja that clocked 6704 TVTs. The seventh spot went to Star Plus' Yeh Rishta Kya Kehlata Hai that rated an average of 6572 TVTs. Following Yeh Rishta... were two from the Colors stable. While Sasural Simar Ka stayed put at No.8 with 6163 TVTs, Comedy Nights with Kapil (Colors) scored 6020 TVTs. Zee TV's Qubool Hai settled at No.10 with 5805 TVTs.

For the record, TVT is television viewership in 1000s (TVR in 1000). It is the average number of individuals in '000s that are available at any given minute of a programme/day part under consideration. It captures growth in TV audiences in the country in absolute numbers. The TVR system, in contrast, works on percentages.
