Sportskeeda Appoints Shard Sharma as VP, Sales and Marketing

Sharma will work towards maximizing Sportskeeda's brand value, traffic and monetisation through various sales and marketing campaigns.

Sportskeeda, an all-sports portal has appointed Shard Sharma as its vice-president of sales and marketing for its Indian as well as international markets. Sharma has more than 14 years of experience, having worked previously with Rediff.com, Sify.com, Moneycontrol.com, Webdunia, Zee Network and Reliance (Zapak).

Says Sharma, "I have always been a huge sports buff. Sport in India has tremendous scope for growth, and Sportskeeda, with its ever-expanding digital media reach, is one of the few organizations in the country capable of accelerating that growth. I hope to be in the thick of things when the sports revolution in India reaches fruition."

Sportskeeda, which recently celebrated its fifth anniversary, was started with the intention of covering lesser-known sports in India - basically, all sports other than cricket. While cricket still forms one of the major focus areas of the site, the coverage of other sports like football, tennis, hockey and badminton has helped Sportskeeda carve a niche for itself. The site witnessed tremendous interest for its FIFA World Cup coverage, with the average monthly readership going up from three million unique ones in April-May 2014 to five million in June-July 2014.

The site is built on crowd-sourcing and boasts of a community of over 200 accomplished writers who power the content for the site, with the audience comprising of many different age groups and demography.
