Uber launches debit card payments in India

The payment mode is available for both Android and iOS users.

Online taxi hailing application Uber has announced the launch of debit cards as an additional payment option in India. Users, of both Android and iOS, across the 18 cities in the country, can now avail this payment mode.

The company recently reintroduced credit card payments in India for all Android users, in partnership with MobiKwik where the latter act as a secure payment getaway.Meanwhile, Uber also has tied up with Paytm for digital wallet payment.

Adhering to RBI regulations, there will be a two-factor authentication flow built into the app and users will have to enter either their Online Banking Pin or their One-Time Password (OTP) to request for a ride using their debit/credit card.

Commenting on the roll-out of debit cards payments, the spokesperson from Uber says, "We're thrilled to be able to gives millions of Indians more choice when it comes to paying for their Uber rides. As we continue to focus on our mission to redefine urban mobility in India, riders will have the ability to chose from debit/credit card payments, Paytm (digital wallet) and cash (in six cities)."

Uber is a technology platform that is revolutionising the way people connect with their cities around the world. It is currently available in over 328 cities in 58 countries around the world. In India, it competes with companies like Meru, Easy and Ola Cabs.
