ESPN and Eenadu get a foothold in TAM Top 100

The December 22 to 28, 2002, C&S Top 100 listing by TAM has the Top 3 mass channels sharing space with a couple of niche players

TAM's C&S Top 100 listing in Week 52 (December 22 to 28, 2002) has quite a few surprises, the chief being that ESPN STAR Sports and regional player Eenadu TV find a mention among the Top 100. The former has four spots in the C&S Top 100, while the latter just about makes it to the list with Telugu feature film Deergha Sumangali, telecast on December 22, notching up TVR of 2.52.

For ESPN the December 26 telecast of the India-New Zealand one dayer is the trump card. Three out of the four positions occupied by the channel pertain to the cricket match, while the last one, is a wrap-up programme titled Wicket Fall standing at No 82 with TVR of 2.68. Figures for the India-New Zealand one dayer are as follows: 3.36 (No 50), 3.12 (No 62) and 2.79 (No 80).

As usual, STAR rules C&S households with a total of 48 programmes in the TAM Top 100. The frontrunner for the general entertainment channel in Week 52 is Kahaani Ghar Ghar Ki with TVR of 10.85 (episode telecast on December 23), followed by Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi with 10.6 (episode telecast on December 24). Interestingly, the first seven positions have been virtually monopolised by the two K-serials with episodes of Kahaani and Kyunki at every alternate position. Corresponding figures from No 3 to No 7 are as follows: 10.37 (December 24 episode of Kahaani), 10.3 (December 25 episode of Kyunki), 10 (December 25 episode of Kahaani), 9.98 (December 23 episode of Kyunki) and 9.12 (December 26 episode of Kahaani).

Positions 8 to 11 see the third big K from Balaji - Kasautii Zindagii Kay - complete the line-up for STAR with the December 26 episode of Kyunki showing up again at No 9 with TVR of 8.62. Kasautii Zindagii Kay, appearing in positions 8, 10 and 11, has TVRs of 8.98 (episode telecast on December 23), 8.33 (episode telecast on December 24) and 8.07 (episode telecast on December 25).

Sony Entertainment Television (SET) has its quota of five in the TAM C&S Top 100 with Kkusum back again in the reckoning after falling behind old warhorse CID in the previous week. This week, the December 24 and 23 episodes of the K-serial telecast at 9.00 pm on weekdays lead the pack with scores of 3.55 and 3.11. The December 27 episode of CID is the third Sony show on the list with a score of 2.99. Bollywood Utsav, a film-based magazine, is the fourth Sony show with 2.93 (episode telecast on December 28). Kkusum once again comes in handy at No 5 with 2.68 (episode telecast on December 25).

Week 52 should bring in some cheer to ZEE TV with both online lottery, Playwin Super Lotto (telecast on December 26), and Thursday Premiere Kya Yehi Pyaar Hai finally vindicating its stand with scores of 2.89 and 2.78 respectively.

Sister channels Sun TV and Gemini TV lead the south Indian brigade with a total of 28 and 12 programmes respectively. The top TVR grosser for Sun is Tamil feature film Naattammai with 4.5, whereas Gemini has Telugu serial Ninne Pilladata with 2.95 to give it an edge in the channel sweepstakes down south.

In the All Homes Top 100, DD1 is the frontrunner with a total of 57 shows, followed by STAR Plus and DD2 with 22 and 18 shows, while DD10 Sahyadri and Sun TV have two and one shows respectively. For DD1, the top TVR grosser is Aap Beeti with 12.51. STAR Plus has Kahaani Ghar Ghar Ki at No 16 with 6.48, whereas DD2 has mythological Ramayan at No 37 with 4.58. © 2003 agencyfaqs!
