One up for Des Mein Nikla Hoga Chand

The Aruna Irani-produced and directed show inches its way up

The New Year has begun on a positive note for weekly family drama Des Mein Nikla Hoga Chand. In the week December 29, 2002, to January 4, 2003, this STAR Plus show telecast every Monday at 9.00 pm moved into the Top 10 after months of being at the fringes (read positions 11 and 12) with a TVR score of 7.4. In the week January 5 to 11, 2003, the soap has moved a rung higher to occupy position No 9 in the TAM C&S Top 100. The corresponding TVR is 8.09.

Apart from this dramatic shift, much remains the same as far as the Top 10 goes with no

serious challenge to Balaji soaps Kyunki and Kahaani, which continue to play musical chairs week after week. In the latest round, Kyunki is the leader with TVR of 9.9 (episode telecast on January 7) followed by Kahaani (episode telecast on January 6) with 9.6 and again Kyunki (episode telecast on January 8) with 9.4.

Positions 4 to 6 have the reverse order of Kahaani, Kyunki, Kahaani with figures of 9.3 (episode telecast on January 7), 9.1 (episode telecast on January 6) and 9.0 (episode telecast on January 8).

The only variation happens in the tail-end positions of 7 to 10 with Kasautii Zindagii Kay, Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi, Des Mein Nikla Hoga Chand and Kahaani Ghar Ghar Ki completing the line-up for STAR. Corresponding TVR figures are: 8.4 (episode telecast on January 8), 8.1 (episode telecast on January 9), 8.0 (episode telecast on January 6) and 8.0 (episode telecast on January 9) respectively.

In total, STAR has 45 shows in the C&S Top 100, whereas rivals, Sony and ZEE have a total of two shows each in the hallowed list.

For Sony, the January 7 episode of Kkusum and the January 10 episode of Heena do the honours with scores of 2.9 (No 69) and 2.4 (No 97) respectively.

ZEE's fortunes continue to fluctuate with Hindi movie Style (Thursday Premiere) and online lottery Playwin Lucky Three (telecast on January 9) attracting scores of 2.9 (No 67) and 2.7 (No 78) respectively.

ESPN-STAR Sports continues to ride high on cricket with six slots in the current C&S listing. The top TVR grosser for the channel is the one-day international between India and New Zealand telecast on January 11. This match has attracted a score of 5.1 (No 22) followed by the India-New Zealand one-dayer telecast on January 8, which has TVR of 4.2 (No 27).

The two matches appear again on the list at positions 55, 59 and 95 attracting scores of 3.1 (match telecast on January 11), 3.0 (match telecast on January 8) and 2.5 (match telecast on January 8) respectively. A wrap-up programme titled Wicket Fall on January 8 also finds mention at No 92 with a score of 2.5.

Sister channels, Sun TV and Gemini TV have a total of 31 and 14 programmes in the C&S Top 100. For flagship Sun TV, Tamil feature film Viralukketha Veekkam (telecast on January 5) is the leader with 5.4 (No18), whereas Gemini TV has the January 7 episode of Telugu serial Ninne Pilladata positioned at No 44 with a modest figure of 3.5 to its credit. © 2003 agencyfaqs!
