Deadline for Golden Award of Montreux 2004 extended to April 4

Here's some good news for those agency creatives, film producers and web designers who missed the deadline for sending in entries for this year's Golden Award of Montreux. The last date for submitting entries for the international advertising and web festival has been extended to April 4, 2004. The actual festival would be held at the Casino Barrière Montreux, Switzerland, from April 13 to May 16, 2004.

To put things in perspective, the annual festival - which was first held in 1989 - is a bit different from other advertising festivals, as it is the only international awards show that combines advertising and multi-media with a television festival. One of the highlights of the Golden Award of Montreux is the award that is given to the funniest commercial, selected from all the entries in TV and cinema. Last year, the Golden Award of Montreux received a total of 2,340 entries in print, poster, film and web media, from 30 countries across the globe. Last year's jury, however, was extremely strict, and awarded only 26 gold medals to entries picked from just 88 finalists. Interestingly, there are no silver and bronze medals awarded at the Montreux festival.

From India's point of view, last year, SSC&B won two gold medals in the print category, one each in the Cosmetics/Pharmaceutical and Public Interest sub-categories. The award-winning entries from SSC&B were the ‘kiss' ad for Axe deodorant, and an ambient media entry (‘plate') for Delhi-based NGO, Deepalaya. (The Axe ad, incidentally, was awarded a gold Abby at the recently concluded Abby Awards 2004.) The agency also won a Finalist Certificate in the film category last year - for a film for Hero Cycles.
