L’Oréal in racist row

The beauty conglomerate has come under fire on social media for sacking one of its new influencers 48 hours after hiring her.

L’Oréal hired and fired trans activist Munroe Bergdorf, one its new influencers, just about two days after hiring her. Bergdorf had made comments in a facebook post addressing racism and white supremacy.

Trans activist Bergdorf became the latest member of the L’Oréal’s ‘Beauty Squad’ only last week. The group features a wide range of influencers, from bloggers and Instagram stars to singers who appear in the brand’s advertising and also create collaborative content.

The company, meanwhile, has released a statement on Twitter stating: “L’Oréal champions diversity. Comments by Munroe Bergdorf are at odds with our values and so we have decided to end our partnership with her.” Social media was up in arms soon after raising doubts about the company’s claims to championing diversity while it fired someone for speaking out against systemic racism.
